How to Convince Your Parents to Get You a New Computer
Steps
- Figure out why your parents don't want you to get a new computer. Is it the price? The dirty socks you leave on your bedroom floor? Forgetting to walk your poodle? Maybe if you talk with your parents, you'll realize why you never get one. Try to then shape up your attitude and do extra work around the house. If you read the book "Judy Moody Declares Independence" you can see all the things she tries to do to get what she wants. Then she jumps right out and says, "So can I have something?" Your parents usually will say "No. Not yet" Don't be like her and then throw a fit. Accept their answer but keep being good. Then they will see you are doing this work because you care, not just for a computer.
- Make a list of reasons why you want a new computer, and don't use excuses like, "But everybody in the school has one!" or "Because I need one!" No parents care about these excuses. Some examples are, "I have to stay up really late to do my homework because the computer loads too slow for me. For example, on Thursday night I had to skip dinner because I was busy working on my school project."
- Don't whine or cry. That just shows your parents that you are weak and have no inner confidence to stand up for your rights. Instead, if you are really angry, go attack your pillow. Then, come back and think about what just happened.
- Show off your busy life. If you accept all the invitations your friends give you to go downtown and have some lunch, or have a lemonade stand, then say no every now and then. Show your parents you are not desprate to get out of the house. Then they will think you don't need a computer because your friends can occupy all your time
- Consider if price is an issue. If the problem is the money, you really need to go to the computer shop and check out some of the computers. Once you find a cheap but good quality computer, tell your parents that you will chip in your future allowances away to pay for half of the computer. Show them that you are not spoiled and you are actually going to work for this computer and pay some of it. Or pay it off by doing house work. A computer's worth it!
- Find a used one online. In fact, used Macs are a bit cheaper than new PCs. And used PCs are probably even cheaper. Not only that, but it's a bit more eco-friendly.
Tips
- If the answer is no, the answer is no, and any unspoiled person would learn to accept and forget. Don't pester your poor parents. They give you food and shelter. Be grateful. At least you have a computer. Some people don't have one book or a doll.
- You can always go to friends houses and play on their computers.
- Be polite and listen to what your parents have to say, they are human, too!
- An alternative. If you are computer hardware savvy, or if you want to save some money (or both) consider building your own computer. This is good if you want to completely customize your computer and save thousands of a comparable computer built by manufacturers. (Warning: No warranty on computer, but the component parts usually have a warranty)
