College Online Classes

Often when students are in college they have a choice to choose between either an online class or a campus class. They both have advantages and disadvantages. If you were considering trying an online class for the first time, you will first need to know everything about them to make a decision. To find out everything you need to know about online classes read below:

When do you go to school? – Online classes are very convienient; you go to school when you want to. It is all online and there are no reasons to leave the house for school. If you work a full/part time job and you want to go to college online classes would be great for you. Also if you have children this will be very beneficial to you.

What are homework assignments like? – The homework assignments are usually these things called discussion questions. Your professor will usually ask you 2 4 questions a week based on what you’re learning. These are on the webpage and to answer the question it is like writing an e mail. You simply write your answer and hit submit. The question is above and your answer will be below just like everyone else’s. You can re read yours once it’s posted and you are capable of reading others also. They are very easy; you do these a couple times a week.

What are quizzes, tests and exams like? – When your professor tests you on certain material it is very different from a written test that you take at school. They are usually all multiple choice and you have a time limit in which it needs to be done. If you don’t finish in time you will get the remaining unfinished answers marked wrong. Although professors are usually pretty generous when it comes to giving you enough time. The only reason they are timed is because they know that you’re capable of looking in your book for the answers. For them to make it more challenging they make it timed.

How do you communicate with others? – Communicating with other people from your class is very easy. You simply e mail them or ask a question/ write a message in the forum. Writing a message in the forum allows everyone to read what you said and gives them a chance to write you back. As for e mail you just e mail them like you would anyone else but through the college’s website. There e mail is written next to their name in the roster.

Can you meet with your teacher? – Yes. Just because this is an online class doesn’t mean you can’t meet with your teacher. Their syllabus (that they give you at the beginning) usually has office hours that you can come and see them. Just e mail your teacher ahead of time and you are capable of seeing your teacher whenever you feel it is necessary.

Online classes are great; they are very convenient and helpful for most people. If you have children, work a job and don’t have a lot of time on your hands, this is the best option for you. The statements above will give you the best idea for what and online class is like without taking one and experiencing it now.
